Funny Food Poems for Kids

By Cindy Silver

Warning: Do not read on an empty stomach. You may become uncontrollably hungry for some of the healthiest foods on earth.

Grocery Shopping Day

Saturdays are special
In a funny sort of way.
Mom and I join forces
It’s grocery shopping day!

Cantaloupe and kiwi,
Carrots, green beans, corn and peas,
Apples and blueberries,
It’s a rainbow I can see.

Next, we choose some fresh bread,
Its aroma fills my nose.
Then it’s chicken legs and sausage,
Whole wheat flour, nuts and cloves.

Dairy foods we gather,
Cherry yogurt, milk and cheese.
Frozen bagels and a pizza,
The one with veggies, please.

Now it’s time for checkout,
Our shopping cart is packed.
Scan and pay the cashier,
Next week, we’ll be back!

Power Breakfast

An egg and toast,
A potato to roast,
Yogurt with berries galore.

A bagel with jam,
Two pancakes with ham,
Oatmeal with raisins and nuts.

A waffle with cheese,
Grits and juice, please,
An omelet, all fluffy and warm.

Breakfast at daybreak,
See what you can make,
It will taste even better that way!

Green Food

Mom says eat my veggies,
Dad says fruits are fine.
So one day I decided
To change the way I dine.

Green grapes cover my table
With kiwi and honeydew.
Green beans, peppers and cabbage,
Broccoli, pears and limas, too.

Mom and Dad are happy,
I’m healthier now, they say.
You might want to try it
Green is smart food every day!

Cow Juice

Milk is sweet,
Milk is cool,
Milk builds your bones.

Milk’s full of protein,
Milk’s full of fun,
Milk cocoa warms your toes.

Drink some for dinner,
Have some for snack,
Enjoy some just before bed.

Cows will say “thank you”
Cows will say “smart”
Cow juice goes right to your head.
