10 Tips for Nutrition Month and Healthier Nutrition All Year Long

September 17, 2024 By Cindy Silver

It’s small habits that add up to big nutrition wins. So, try one or more of these tips, consistently, for a beautiful shift to feeling better with quality nutrition.

healthy food We celebrate Nutrition Month in March and yet moving in the direction of healthier, every day nutrition is a goal to shoot for. More energy, more joy in eating, more good reports from the doctor are what we all want — so go for a subtle shift in your nutrition this month and then keep going with it all year long.

10 Tips for Nutrition Month…and All Year Long

  1. Wake up and drink a glass of water
  2. Work in a fruit or vegetable, or both, with breakfast
  3. Take a ‘refresh break’ in the mid-morning with a fruit or vegetable and a big glass of water
  4. Experiment with spices and herbs at your meal or snack
  5. Make an easy, homemade soup in a big batch and enjoy it all week long
  6. Make an easy, homemade stir-fry with 3 of your favorite veggies plus chicken, shrimp, or tofu
  7. Shift to whole wheat pasta
  8. Take a ‘refresh break’ in the mid-afternoon with a fruit or vegetable and a big glass of water
  9. Screen a restaurant for healthier choices before going there
  10. Shift to healthy fats such as nuts, seeds, avocado, extra virgin olive oil, and fatty fish

If you need ideas about how to put one of these tips into practice, feel free to contact me.

How to Put Tips into Practice

This is the hard part of establishing new, healthier nutrition habits. Putting any new, healthier lifestyle behavior into practice, day-by-day, is totally worthwhile. But, it takes desire, determination, and consistency to be successful. Here are 3 ways to succeed:

  1. Remind yourself every day of your new nutrition habit – such as any of the 10 above. Say it out loud if that gets your attention better. Tell a friend what you’re doing. Ask a friend to join you in making a positive nutrition shift.
  2. Have a can-do attitude for success with your new nutrition habit. Be super positive, dance, sing, and tell yourself that ‘you’ve got this.’
  3. Be patient with yourself in achieving your new nutrition habit. The shift takes time and sometimes it’s 3 weeks or sometimes it’s 3 months.

Get Ready for Nutrition Success

A subtle and beautiful shift into healthier nutrition is something everyone can do. Choosing one tip above and putting a big effort into it is your path to success. After achieving a first tip-habit, then it will be time to choose one more tip above and put an effort into it. There are hundreds of foods that offer us high quality nutrition, and there are nutrition experts such as registered dietitians who can assist you in a re-design of your current nutrition into healthier nutrition.
