Vacation Car Snacks!
With summer officially here and the kids out of school – finally – it may be time to start or complete your vacation plan. If you will be driving to your vacation destination, then healthy car snacks just make a ton of good sense – to eat well, to save money and to keep everyone in the car happy. Check my tips below and please let me know what I’ve forgotten that I can later post on the Market Basket Nutrition facebook page. By the way, please LIKE the page to get daily tips, tiny recipes and inspiration for your healthy life. The recipes I’m featuring this month are all about berries – strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, and more. I wish you all a safe and relaxing vacation no matter where you are!
5 Vacation Car Snacks to Pack!
- Crackers & Cheese: String cheese travels well & the cracker adds a cool crunch.
- Dried Fruit: All dried fruit travels well. Try dried apples, peaches, cherries or raisins.
- Yogurt: Stash yogurt cups into a small cooler with ice pack. Comes in handy for longer trips.
- Nuts: Bring a store-bought can of mixed or solo variety nuts to stay alert – not hungry – driving.
- Water: Stash water into a cooler. Seltzer or club soda is sparkly and refreshing for a change.
Easy Solutions!
My recent Blog about Strawberry & Apple Crisp will get you going on a healthy, summer dessert that’s made with nutritious berries. This kind of dessert is a notch healthier than a more traditional pie or cobbler, partly because there’s no high calorie crust and partly because I use less sugar and butter.
I write a new blog every week so please click here to read about a topic you enjoy. The new search feature allows you to look for healthy recipes, grocery shopping tips or anything that inspires your good nutrition goals.

Nutrition Inspiration!
Where do you get inspiration to eat nutritiously? As July begins, I anticipate spending lots of time picking my blueberry bushes. This is a picture from last July’s berries, by the way. Will you find a pick-your-own place for blueberries or stop into the local Farmer’s Market for some? There’s a long list of other fresh, local produce to anticipate this month such as cucumbers, tomatoes, peaches, corn on the cob, cantaloupe, zucchini, Bell peppers, plums, watermelon and more. My advice is to taste it all, cook with it in your kitchen as much as you can and enjoy the health advantage you will get!
