When summer comes and fun is on the calendar…remember to add a hefty plate of healthier nutrition, too!

Healthier Summer Meals are the Best Plan

Healthier meals will be your best plan for the summer and your best ‘fuel’ for all the summer-y activities you want to do.   This summer, try to keep it simple as you arrange your healthy plate. And, when time is tight, turn to a picnic-style meal or a sandwich and salad combo. To save money for summer vacation, and stay on track with healthier nutrition, prep and eat at home as much as possible.

Healthier Summer Meals in Less Time

Grill lover: Grilled turkey burger or salmon burger on a whole grain bun, plus coleslaw, plus light potato chips, plus watermelon

Chicken lover: Cold chicken salad over salad greens, plus whole grain crackers and fresh fruit salad

Canned fish lover: One-dish cold pasta salad with canned tuna, sardines, or mackerel, plus tomatoes, cucumbers and olives, plus a wedge of cantaloupe

Picnic lover: Skewers of fresh mozzarella-fresh basil leaves-tomato chunks-crusty bread, plus rolled up roast beef, plus fresh blueberries, plus oatmeal cookies with raisins

Sandwich lover: Sliced turkey breast on whole wheat pita, plus raw radishes-carrots-celery to dip into hummus, plus one-bite tomatoes to dip, too, plus a fruit-yogurt smoothie
