A colorful picnic board works perfectly as a family meal!

What are your secrets to healthier family nutrition? When there are kids in the house, your example may be most important.

All year long, moms and dads think about their children. Sometimes these thoughts turn into action plans about how to feed the kids and the entire family better nutrition. With room to customize the ideas to fit your unique family, go ahead and try the 5 ideas below. Of course, keep an open mind because kids will always surprise you, even at the meal table.

5 Smart Tips for Parents Who Want to Feed the Entire Family Better Nutrition

  1. Be a healthy eating role model. Parents can change the game for their children by setting a healthy eating example every day. It’s not hard. Moms and dads who eat healthier meals and snacks make a big impact on their children without even trying.
  2. Plan a shopping list together. Talking over what choices belong on the family list is a fun way to make every child’s voice count. With input to the list, children will feel better about trying new, nutritious foods.
  3. Food shop together. A team approach to food shopping empowers children to make healthier food choices. Give 4-9 year olds a choice between 2 foods, both nutritious. For 10-12 year olds the grocery list can be a fun scavenger hunt through the store.
  4. Have fun in the kitchen together. Simple, healthier cooking at home teaches children important life skills. It can also boost their self confidence in general.
  5. Strike a balance. Parents who encourage their children to choose a healthier lifestyle will want to include better nutrition, friendships, fun exercise, laughter, and personal safety. It’s all about balance.
