Green Salad Tips for Better Nutrition

September 17, 2024 By Cindy Silver

Here’s a simple salad with delicious, better nutrition!

I know a lot of people who eat a lot of green salads.

In fact, several years ago I had a client who loved salad and I was trying to help her improve its nutrition quality. After a fun discussion of options for her salad, she realized that the salad greens are good nutrition and when you add the toppings, you get even better nutrition. That just about sums it up if you ask me. There are many creative directions your salad can take for better nutrition.

Green Salad Tips for Better Nutrition

  1. Buy the freshest salad greens – Each time you stock up on greens, check the freshness because these delicate vegetables wilt within days.
  2. Vary your salad greens – Choose different kinds of greens for a different crunch and flavor. The combinations with fresh herbs mixed in are worth a try, too.
  3. Add toppings to your salad – Each salad deserves toppings for color, crunch, savory, sweet, and eye-appeal. Dive right in and top it to suit you.

Green Salad Tips for Toppings, Layers or Mix-Ins

  1. Jar Salads are beautiful to look at and handy for your office or classroom lunch. Here’s a Mason Jar Salad recipe that walks you through the process, layer by layer.
  2. Mixed Fruit and Vegetable Salads are a neat combo of flavors that are definitely worth a try. Here’s a Watermelon & Cucumber Salad that is delicious as well as very hydrating.
  3. Kitchen Sink Salads are pretty much any combination of greens and toppings. They can also help you use up leftovers and waste less.

Salad Dressing Tips for Better Nutrition

As you experiment with salad greens and fun toppings, then why not take one more step and make your own salad dressing? It will seal the deal with your better nutrition, believe me, and you will be on your way to a new-normal with your personal lifestyle. In an earlier blog, I explained salad ideas along with 3 easy homemade salad dressing recipes so please take a look. These free Mediterranean Menus will move you along as well.

What will be your signature green salad with toppings?

This really is an important topic. We alway view salad as being healthy but not everyone knows how to optimize the nutrition that you get from one.
