Holiday foods bring us into the kitchen, and that’s a good thing. Putting together a healthy menu, though, can be tough.

Think about your holiday party appetizer table, for example. Are there rich cheeses, sour cream dip, and mini-quiches.? Or, are there steamed shrimp, nuts, and colorful raw veggies? The second option is definitely the direction to go for an enjoyable and nutritious nibble. So, this holiday season, challenge yourself to offer lighter and healthier foods in delicious harmony with great flavor. Here’s a tasty starting point:

Lighter & Healthier Appetizers – Try these:

  • Steamed Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce
  • Radishes with Hummus to dip
  • Mixed Olives

Lighter & Healthier Salads – Try these:

  • Coleslaw with extra virgin olive oil & lemon juice
  • Creative Green Salad
  • Tangy Carrot Salad

Lighter & Healthier Entrees – Try these:

  • Roast Turkey Breast
  • Grilled Wild salmon
  • Loaded Vegetarian Baked Potato
  • Grain & Bean Stuffed Peppers

Lighter & Healthier Sides – Try these:

  • Root Vegetables
  • Peas with Mushrooms
  • Broccoli with Cheese

Lighter & Healthier Desserts – Try these:

  • Cranberry-Apple Crisp
  • Easy Pumpkin Pie
  • Yogurt and Fruit Parfait

Take the Leap this Holiday Season

Your leap is a powerful example to everyone around you – family, friends, office colleagues, everyone. When you serve holiday foods or holiday snacks, take the lighter and healthier approach. You will probably hear people whispering about your choices and that will mean you’ve got their attention. Show that you care by offering better quality nutrition every chance you get. My Mediterranean Meals are free, so please grab them to use during your holidays and into the New Year.

What holiday menu are you going to make this year?
